Success Stories

Nothing better demonstrates the possibilities to break the cycle for homelessness when a motivated client makes effective use of Morningside's programs.

Mary

Mary and her young son came to Morningside in desperate straits. She was a severe alcoholic with deteriorating health, had a history of abusive relationships and few job skills. Mary was encouraged to enter a long term treatment program, which she completed successfully. She then acquired her G.E.D., took college preparatory courses and recieved her Associates degree. Mary plans to continue her education and has been accepted at a number of four year colleges. She continues to be clean and sober, is a devoted mother and has a beautiful apartment in a very nice neighborhood.

John

John came to the shelter form out for state. He had been living in a series of homeless shelters for a year after his parents, who were unable to deal with his mental illness, asked him to leave home. John was referred to the local mental health office and received a variety of services, including help with a psychiatric disability claim, counseling, medications and housing. John has been in the community for years now and his life is quite stable. He has a nice apartment that is subsidized and thus very affordable, receives case management services and is pursing vocational training. John occasionally drops by at Morningside to say hello and up date the staff on how things are going.
